2008 DN Galan added another innovation to the family of DN Galan events and brought athletics out from the arena and to the people – in this case shot put to a square down town Stockholm. DN Galan Big Shot was born! A shot put arena was built up with stands in front o the permanent stage in Kungsträdgården and the shot put competition was framed by music, show and entertainment in true DN Galan spirit.

The day started with DN Galan Youth Shot – an invitation competition for the Swedish youth age 14 to 19, continued with “try out shot” for the general public including challenge competition against celebrities and ended with the worlds elite women’s and men’s competition. The event was broadcasted by Swedish Television (SVT) that also did build a studio next to the arena for interviews etc.

The event was a hit and DN Galan Big Shot continues 2009 and will be staged on Thursday July 30, the day before DN Galan at Stockholm Olympic Stadium. The area in Kungsträdgården will be larger and improved with greater opportunities for activities for the general public and sponsors. The worlds best shot putters will be back and DN Galan Youth Shot will again start the competition.

SVT will broadcast the event as part of a pre-DN Galan sport show the same evening at 22.00 – 22.30.
