DN Galan a dress rehearsal for the World Championships

Athletes competing at DN Galan at Stockholm Olympic Stadium, Friday July 31, have won no less than 61 Olympic –and 81 World Championship medals.

Among the Olympic gold medalists are Asafa Powell and Michael Frater, Jamaica, Shawn Crawford, Jeremy Wariner and Natasha Hastings, USA, Yurij Borzakowski and Tatyana Lebedeva, Russia, Dayron Robles, Cuba, Steven Hooker, Australia and Andreas Thorkildsen, Norway.

Twelve have posted this year’s top performances:
Tyson Gay, USA, (100 and 200m), Abubaker Kaki, Sudan, (800m), Dayron Robles, Cuba, (110m hurdles), Yaroslav Rybakov and Ivan Ukhov, Russia, Andra Manson, USA, (high jump), Reese Hoffa, USA, (shot put), Vadims Vasilevskis, Latvia, (javelin), Kerron Stewart, Jamaica, (100m), Debbie Ferguson, Bahamas, (200m), Lolo Jones, USA, (100m hurdles) and Brittney Reese, USA, (long jump).

-The fields are really impressive, says DN Galan meeting director Rajne Söderberg. In all events we have athletes who most likely will be on the podium in Berlin two weeks from now.

A few of the hot events:
The world’s fastest man this year, Tyson Gay, USA tops a strong 100 metre field. Nine other runners headed by Asafa Powell have run sub 10 seconds. Four of them faster than 9.90!
Men 400 metres: Jeremy Wariner, USA has the Stadium record with 43.50 and is looking to get a third diamond. Three other runners have times under 44.70, among them Johan Wissman.

In the women’s 400 metres six runners have personal bests better than Allyson Felix’ 49.70.
Interesting starts by Swedes in addition to Johan Wissman are Mattias Claesson, Mustafa Mohamed, Alhaji Jeng, Jesper Fritz, Philip Nossmy and Robert Kronberg.
