After an unbelievable last lap in 60 seconds, she fell short by 1.73 seconds, but the time 14:12.88 was a new Stadium record. - Today my feelings were good and I had a very nice time during the race because everyone at the Stadium supported me. Thank you! The eyes of the world were watching the duel in the 100 metres between the new world record holder Usain Bolt and the former record holder Asafa Powell. Asafa got a great start and won in 9.88, one hundredth of a second to Usain. DN Galan was the only meeting between the Jamaicans in Europe. Wei Wei sings DN Galan’s theme song with Rongedal and welcomes you to the Olympic Games.
Wei Wei and Rongedal have written the tune “Moment of Truth” for DN Galan (Stockholm Super Grand Prix). The competition has been held annually since 1967 at Stockholm Stadion and is today one of the greatest in IAAF World Athletic Tour.
The collaboration was initiated when DN Galan invited the Olympic Games singer Wei Wei to the Gala last spring. Wei Wei, who some months earlier learnt to know the band Rongedal in Beijing, suggested that they would compose together. “Moment of Truth” is written in both English and Chinese and is the official theme song for DN Galan (Music: Rongedal, Lyrics: Wei Wei andRongedal. Produced by Pontus Frisk and Patricio Cabezas).
Global reach to a billion spectators Wei Wei and the band Rongedal will perform at Stockholm Stadion on a scene built for this occasion. The appearance is included in the three hour long programme telecast by Swedish Television to TV channels all over the entire world: Eurosport, Chinese CCTV Olympic etc... The total reach is calculated to over a billion viewers and the telecast will be seen in Europe, China, Japan, North and South America, the Middle East, Australia, Indonesia and South Africa.

A duel for the history books? |
|
onsdag, 09 juli 2008 17:55 |
The meeting between Jamaica´s Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell is a duel that meeting promoters have been dreaming about, but one that can only be seen at DN Galan, Tuesday, July 22. New world record holder Usain Bolt ran 9,72 in May and is the favourite to win Olympic gold in Beijing, but he has to watch out for former record holder Asafa Powell who has the Stadium record with 9,86. A time that could be in jeopardy. There will also be a duel in the women´s pole vault. A duel that has the potential to become historic. Yelena Isinbayeva, the phenomenal Russian who has set 21 world records since 2003 and who is alone to have cleared five metres, (5.01), is coming to DN Galan for the fourth time. Last time she was in Stockholm she jumped 4.79 and received a 1-carat diamond for her Stadium record. - Stockholm Olympic Stadium is good for pole vault, says Yelena who would love to get another diamond. It is possible to jump very high there. She will face Jennifer Stuczynski who won the USA Olympic trials last week. After a new American record, (4.92), she made two attempts at 5.02. - It is not unlikely that for the first time in history we will see two women jump five metres, says DN Galan´s meeting director Rajne Söderberg. Isinbayeva became the first woman over five metres July 22, 2005. Now Jennifer Stuczynski can copy the achievement – three years to the day!

Usain Bolt, Jamaica’s world record holder in the 100 metres and his fellow countryman and former world record holder Asafa Powell are confirmed to meet each other at DN Galan, July 22 at Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
It will be a loaded, hot and exclusive explosion on an arena that has seen more world records – 83 – than any other athletics field in the world. It will also be the only meeting in Europe where these fast giants will face each other before the Olympics in Beijing.
- This may well be the most attractive duel that meeting promoters have been chasing this year and we are proud that we won the fight. This is, of course, a highly interesting meeting prior to the Olympics. In a serious race. They met at the Jamaican championships, but both had turned off the engines as they crossed the finish line, says Rajne Söderberg, meeting director of DN Galan.
That race was won by Usain Bolt with 9,80 – slowing down, that is. What does this mean for the duel at Stockholm Olympic Stadium? You may recall how Maurice Greene and Ato Boldon raced each other and the Stadium record down to 9,87. In 2006 Asafa Powell set the current Stadium record 9,86, so it is obviously possible to run fast at the arena with its fine old traditions. The question is how fast?
Usain Bolt set the world record with 9,72 at Icahn Stadium in New York earlier this year. In only his fifth(!) race he erased fellow countryman Asafa Powell’s previous record of 9,74 seconds. In New York Bolt also beat the world champion, American Tyson Gay.
The line up at DN Galan is of the highest world class. In addition to Bolt and Powell it includes Derrick Atkins, Bahamas, who has a personal best of 9,91 as well as the most interesting sprinter in Europe, Jaysuma Saidy Ndure.
The 24-year old was born in Gambia, but moved to Norway and is a Norwegian citizen. Jaysuma’s personal best is 10,01 from Doha, May 9 of this year and it is the seventh fastest time in history in Europe. At Stockholm Olympic Stadium against the world’s fastest men he will get an excellent opportunity to break the magical ten-second barrier.
